I went the opposite way today, on verse 12 (“Be not far from me, O God; come quickly, O my God, to help me.” (NIV) and then worked around a theme from a contemporary pop-translation in which the Psalmist tells God – “Hey! Don’t just watch from the sidelines! Get over here and HELP me!”

We do sing the Psalms at St. Mark’s in Seattle, often using the settings by Peter Hallock, whom we honored recently with an all Peter Hallock concert. However, this morning, An Anglican chant setting by Ivor Atkins was used.
