Where is God in the Haiti earthquake?

This video is all over Twitter and Facebook, and for good reason. I usually don’t like to post things that are so widely dispersed, but this is such an effective response to pervasive questions in the midst of great suffering that I want everyone to see this. Pat Robertson is an idiot, and I want to ensure that every Christian (and every person who is skeptical of Christian claims) has a better perspective on God’s presence in times of suffering.

Let’s be clear. There are no clever aphorisms to cover over the reality of evil and suffering. There is not always “a reason” things happen. There may not be a silver lining in the cloud. There is no justice in most suffering. At the same time, we should not doubt that God is with those who suffer.

Yes, Frugal Dougal, I suppose you are right. Looking at your blog, I see you are banned in China. Congrats! Good thing the Chinese firewall can’t block access to God (or God’s access to us).

As John Stewart so eloquently put it after airing Pat Robertson’s statement, “Shut your f***ing pie-hole, man.
