The evening Angelus
Today is the Feast of the Conception of Blessed Mary. Though it is not in the kalendar for the American prayer book (nor in the lamentable Holy Women, Holy Men), this feast day is widely observed by catholic-minded Anglicans. Note that I do not mention the word “immaculate” in the title of the feast, because that word suggests an unwarranted doctrinal innovation, in my view. Still, we can celebrate Mary’s conception today (nine months before the feast of her nativity, just as we celebrate the annunciation nine months before the birth of Jesus).
In that spirit, I give you the Angelus. This post appears at 6 p.m. local time, just as we should be ringing our bells out in celebration of the incarnation.
